Take Action Now to Protect Physician-Led Care & Patient Safety

WAOPS is sharing the following advocacy update from the AOA regarding two federal bills currently gaining momentum in Congress that may impact physician-led care and patient safety. Because these issues could have broader implications for osteopathic physicians and the patients we serve, we encourage members to review this information and consider taking action.

The AOA has identified concerns related to the following legislation:

  1. H.R. 3164, the “Ensuring Community Access to Pharmacist Services Act,” would allow pharmacists to bill Medicare Part B directly for certain evaluation, testing, and treatment services currently provided within physician-led care models.
  1. H.R. 539, the “Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act of 2025,” would significantly expand Medicare recognition and coverage for chiropractors by allowing Medicare payment for services authorized under state scope of practice laws.

While pharmacists, chiropractors, and other healthcare professionals are important members of the healthcare team, the AOA has expressed concerns that expanded non-physician scope of practice efforts may fragment care, weaken care coordination, and undermine physician-led, team-based healthcare models.

The AOA is encouraging osteopathic physicians to engage with lawmakers and share perspectives on the importance of physician-led care, clinical oversight, and patient safety.

Take Action:

Through the AOA Advocacy Action Center, osteopathic physicians can contact members of Congress regarding H.R. 3164 and H.R. 539 and participate in ongoing advocacy efforts.
