Patient dissatisfaction is tied to poor patient and physician experiences, and addressing patient grievances can help mitigate this risk. This session will (1) describe the rationale for why patients become dissatisfied; (2) explain how proper service recovery can mitigate risks and improve patient engagement; and (3) describe how physician involvement in handling grievances benefits both physicians and patients.

Geniculate Artery Embolization: A Minimally Invasive Option
for Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee osteoarthritis is a leading cause of chronic pain and disability in older adults. This session will (1) identify patients who may be candidates for geniculate artery embolization; (2) apply radiographic findings, pain severity, and treatment history to determine appropriate referrals; and (3) describe the GAE procedure, recovery, expected outcomes, and safety.

Primary HPV Screening

Primary HPV testing is now a preferred cervical cancer screening option for average-risk patients ages 30–65. This session will (1) explain the rationale for primary HPV screening; (2) apply current screening guidelines to common clinical scenarios; and (3) counsel patients on HPV self-sampling, including its benefits and limitations.

Hospital Medicine Update, New Medications and Data

In the last few years, we have better data on how to risk stratify and manage patients in acute health crises. This session will (1) review new data on anticoagulant and antiplatelet management; (2) compare different approaches to preoperative assessment; and (3) discuss options for managing co-occurring addiction disorders and infections.

Death review teams are an important public health resource for improving responses to deaths by suicide and developing prevention initiatives. This session will (1) describe the role of medical examiners and forensic pathologists in death investigations; (2) explain the purpose and public health role of death review teams; and (3) identify resources for developing, improving, or participating in death review teams within the community.

Primary care clinicians frequently encounter patients with substance use disorders but may have limited training and practical tools to address them. This session will (1) recognize and assess opioid and stimulant use disorders; (2) identify key clinical considerations for caring for patients with substance use disorders within an osteopathic framework; and (3) apply evidence-based treatment while integrating harm reduction strategies into treatment planning.
